Your files in Windows mode
Your files stay on Wild OS. Windows mode only sees the folders you share with it, and saving in a Windows program puts the file straight into your own folders, ready for any app.
Shared folders
Section titled “Shared folders”By default Windows mode can see these four folders in your Home folder:
- Documents
- Downloads
- Pictures
- Desktop
Inside Windows they appear together on one drive, Z:, and Windows programs open and save there. Save a document in Word, and it’s in your Documents folder on Wild OS.
Nothing else on your disk is visible to Windows: not your other folders, not other people’s accounts, not system files.
Files elsewhere
Section titled “Files elsewhere”To open a file that’s somewhere else, such as on a USB stick or in Music, copy or move it into Documents first. Windows programs can’t reach it otherwise, and Wild OS tells you so.
Choosing different folders
Section titled “Choosing different folders”The list of shared folders is shown in Settings > Windows apps > Windows mode > Folders Windows apps can see. Changing it there isn’t available yet, so the four folders above are the ones shared for now.
Why it works this way
Section titled “Why it works this way”Windows is the part of your computer most often targeted by malware. Keeping it to a few folders means a bad download in Windows can only reach what you’ve shared, never the rest of your computer.
