Will it run on my PC?
If your PC runs Windows 11, it will very likely run Wild OS. Windows mode has a few extra needs.
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | 64-bit Intel or AMD | Any recent Intel Core or AMD Ryzen |
| Memory | 4 GB | 16 GB, especially for Windows mode |
| Storage | 40 GB | 128 GB SSD or more |
| Firmware | UEFI or legacy BIOS | UEFI with Secure Boot |
| Windows mode | Windows 11 Pro licence, virtualisation on | A PC sold with Windows 11 Pro |
The installer checks the disk and memory for you before it changes anything, and tells you plainly if something is short.
Windows mode
Section titled “Windows mode”Windows mode runs a real copy of Windows in the background, so it needs a little more:
- A Windows 11 Pro licence. Most PCs sold with Pro have it stored in the firmware, and Wild OS finds it. Windows 11 Home isn’t supported yet. See Windows licences.
- Virtualisation switched on. Almost every PC from the last decade supports it. If it’s off, Windows mode shows you how to turn it on.
- 8 GB of memory or more. It will run with about 6 GB, but your PC may slow down while Windows apps are open. Windows mode borrows about 2 GB while you use it and hands it back when you stop.
- About 26 GB of free space, or 30 GB with Microsoft 365. Your documents stay in your own folders, outside it.
Everything else in Wild OS works on any PC, with or without a Windows licence.
Intel Macs can start Wild OS from a USB stick: hold Option as it starts. Apple silicon Macs (M1 and later) can’t, because Wild OS is built for Intel and AMD processors.
