What works in Windows mode
Because Windows mode is real Windows, compatibility is as good as Windows itself. If it runs on Windows, it runs here.
| Software | Works | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 and Office | Yes | Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote |
| Adobe Creative Cloud | Yes | Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat. Heavy 3D work is slower |
| Business and accounts software | Yes | Accounts packages, line-of-business and industry tools |
| Everyday Windows programs | Yes | Anything that installs from an .exe or .msi |
| Video calls | Yes | Zoom and Slack install their Linux versions, and Teams runs as its web app |
| Windows games | Yes | Through Steam’s Proton, without Windows mode. See games |
| Games with kernel anti-cheat | No | Valorant, Fortnite and a few others refuse Linux and virtual machines |
| Windows-only hardware drivers | No | Some dongles and scanners. Passing devices through to Windows is planned |
Graphics-heavy work
Section titled “Graphics-heavy work”Windows mode doesn’t use your graphics card directly, so everyday programs feel normal but heavy 3D work, video effects and games are slower than on a Windows PC.
