Protection levels
Wild OS has three protection levels. Choose one in Settings > Privacy and security > Protection level. Wild OS asks for your password to change it.
Standard
Section titled “Standard”Strong protection that stays out of your way, and the right choice for most people. You get everything in how Wild OS protects you, with no extra limits.
Strict
Section titled “Strict”Tighter defaults. Some apps and devices will ask for permission first.
- A firewall turns away any incoming connection you didn’t ask for. Finding printers and screens on your network, and Windows mode, keep working.
- USB devices already plugged in when the computer starts need your OK too, not just new ones.
Maximum
Section titled “Maximum”For high-risk situations. Expect some things to stop working. Everything in Strict, plus:
- Network discovery is blocked, so the computer doesn’t announce itself or find printers and screens on the network by itself.
- Bluetooth is turned off.
- The camera is switched off at the driver, so no app can use it.
Which should I choose?
Section titled “Which should I choose?”Stay on Standard unless you have a reason not to. Strict suits a laptop you take to cafés, hotels and other public networks. Maximum is for when you’d rather lose some convenience than take any chances, such as when travelling to places where your devices might be searched or targeted.
You can go back to Standard at any time.
