App permissions

Apps from the Store’s Flathub section run in their own sandbox, with only the access they need. Anything that wants your camera or microphone has to ask.

When an app wants your camera or microphone, Wild OS asks in plain words. Choose Allow while open to let it use them until you close it, or Don’t allow.

Go to Settings > Privacy and security > App permissions. You can look at it two ways:

  • By permission: Camera, Microphone, Location, Files and folders and Internet, each listing the apps that can use it, with a switch for each.
  • By app: Everything an app can reach shows each Store app and all of its permissions in one place.

Turning a permission off takes effect the next time the app opens.

Apps from Wild OS and Debian packages, such as the ones that come with Wild OS, are built and signed by the maintainers and run like any program on your computer, without a sandbox. AppArmor still limits what system services can touch.

Windows programs run inside Windows mode, which is sealed off from the rest of your computer and only sees the folders you share. See your files in Windows mode.
